Jozef Cantré

Rijksuniversiteit Gent, Hoger Instituut voor Kunstgeschiedenis (1950)

In the design of the Boekentoren, van de Velde had planned the integration of works of art. In 1943 sculptor Jozef Cantré was commissioned to create a sculpture, intended to be placed at the entrance of the HIKO. It became a bas-relief, which depicts an allegorical representation of sculpture, architecture, painting and art history. It was placed in 1950.
